Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Can I just come and listen?
A: Yes, please do! Listen Club listeners are fellow sound-lovers and makers, people who want to listen intently, offer mutual support, be inspired, potentially find collaborators and maybe share their work themselves one day (though they don’t have to!). Come along and see if this is you.
Q: Is Listen Club for a particular genre or type of music?
A: No - it's a "genre-free" environment for original music. Our test-run included a jazz duo reunited after many years, a singer at the piano testing her new album, a newly formed guitar duo, and the first play of a recording of cinematic sound design involving pig noises and squeaking gates. Expect the eclectic!
Q: Are the sharing slots paid opportunities?
A: If we are successful in getting funding, we will be able to offer a small fee to cover artists' expenses. If we don't get funding, we'll be more DIY and hope it'll still be useful to share work.
Q: Can I get feedback on my work?
A: Yes! There's time after each slot for a dialogue between the artist and audience - whether it’s specific feedback that the artist has asked for, or questions that the audience might have about their work, so there are lots of opportunities to learn from and inspire each other.
Q: Is there a bar?
A: No, but you’re welcome to BYO and we'll have the tea urn ready to go (donations welcome)
Q: Do I have to pay to come?
A: You don’t have to pay money, just pay attention – apparently that’s the new economy.
Q: What’s the sound set-up?
A: We can adapt to what you need. Let us know what you need and what you can bring. If we get funding, we’ll buy a good PA. If we don’t get funding, we’ll use what the community has (which is pretty decent). There is time between each session to set-up.
If you have any other questions, please let us know...we're all ears!
We hope to listen with you soon x
